1. Listen to or read How To Improve Listening Skills Podcast.
2. Watch Everybody Loves Raymond Video Clip. In this short clip, Ray is learning about paraphrasing or active
listening. Ray has some practicing to do to become proficient at paraphrasing!
3. Watch this TED Talks Video for your blog posting assignment.

Activities for this lesson include:
Although these learning activities are not graded, they are still essential to your success in this course. In this self-assessment listening activity, you will listen closely to a story and complete a short quiz in order to assess your listening skills.
1. Listening for Details Exercise
How well did you listen to, comprehend and remember the details of the story? Now that you have assessed your listening skills, you have a starting point with which to improve your skills. Before you can develop a listening improvement plan, you will need to be able to distinguish between the different types of listening. In this learning activity, you will apply the six types of listening from Hurier’s Listening Model to various listening scenarios.
2. Hurier’s Listening Model Exercise
By completing this exercise, you should be able to identify various types of listening. In the next learning activity, you will develop a plan to improve your listening. Effective listening can be difficult and humans typically only listen with 25% efficiency (Engelberg & Wynn, 2013). Therefore, it will be helpful for to develop a plan to improve your listening.
3. Creating a Listening Improvement Plan
During this module you have assessed your listening skills, identified several types of listening, and completed a listening improvement plan. Check your understanding and if you can answer "yes!" to the questions below, then proceed to the "Assignments" portion of this learning module.

This week, you will be taking a quiz on the material in Module 5. If you would like to take a practice quiz, listen to audio of this chapter, or complete a flash card activity before completing your graded quiz, proceed to the web site link below.
